Designated DOCS, Drive-on Containment System, Bamberg National Guard
keeps to the forefront in environmental protection and safety with the
installation of a brand new spill containment platform.
The system, developed and marketed by FPI, Fire Protection, Inc., out
of Costa Mesa, California, is designed as a secondary containment to
collect fuel and oil spills during the loading,
transfer and unloading of tankers and other vehicles. Its also ideal
for hot refueling for helicopters, says FPI.
In the past Gary Van Valkenburgh, Director of FPI, said
Friday, Guard units had to build containment systems of concrete.
Because military missions change and rapid deployment is essential, these concrete containments were entirely unsatisfactory. They
couldnt be relocated and simply had to be abandoned.
The new DOCS system solved that problem. It can be quickly placed in a
location and quickly moved as the mission changes, and can be adjusted to
any size required. Designed with the
National Guard Bureau in early 2000, the system is EPA/SPCC compliant,
requires only a short lead time, no construction costs, and requires
minimum field assembly.
